Adjusting the wheel alignment (collision) of a Tesla car is one of the most important actions to ensure the correct directional stability of the car and the life span published by the tire manufacturer.
When should wheel alignment be done?
- After suspension repair or replacement of its parts;
- If technological changes have been introduced to the car’s suspension;
- If your car was involved in an accident;
- After the seasonal change of tires;
- If the car “jerks” to the right or left while driving;
- The axis of the steering wheel is shifted relative to the axis of the steering column;
- When maneuvering, the wheels do not immediately obey the commands of the steering wheel;
- Rubber looks worn and old;
- After hitting an obstacle, especially in the case of deformation of the wheel shield or damage to the suspension.
How to identify incorrect wheel alignment:
You have to go to the service center every year to adjust the camber, even if no repairs have been done or the suspension has been tuned. Considering the quality of the road surface, the periodic hits of the car in the pit, collisions with curbs, adjusting the wheel alignment is necessary quite often. If the changes in the angle of inclination of the wheels are not adjusted, the car cannot maintain a normal course while driving, its reaction to the steering wheel is imprecise, foggy. Among the main symptoms that indicate the need to apply for wheel alignment is the need to “steer” when driving in a straight line.
- The car starts to “pull” to the side;
- Change of steering wheel position;
- Uneven tire wear;
- Gear part repair;
- Car getting into a rail or a «serious» hole, deformation of wheel shields;
- The car’s response to the driver’s actions while driving has started to lag, the steering wheel turns stiffly;
- Installing new tires or changing winter tires to summer ones.
