On the ServiceMode price list, Tesla maintenance starts from €60, repair work from €80 and diagnostics from €150. These are “from” prices and they do not include VAT. The final amount depends on what your car actually needs.

Below: what the invoice is made of, which jobs a Tesla typically needs in a year, and how to keep your Tesla maintenance costs predictable.

Why Tesla maintenance cost is lower than for a petrol car

According to Tesla’s support page, a Tesla needs no traditional oil changes, fuel system maintenance, spark plug replacements or emission checks. Brake pads are also replaced rarely, because regenerative braking does much of the stopping. That alone removes several lines that recur every year on a petrol or diesel car’s bill.

What remains are time-based jobs: a brake fluid check every 4 years, a cabin filter every 2 years, wiper blades every year and tyre rotation every 10,000 km. On salted roads, cleaning and lubricating the brake calipers once a year is added. We cover them in detail in our article on the Tesla maintenance schedule.

What makes up the Tesla maintenance cost

Every service invoice has three parts: labour, parts, and extra work found during the inspection. The “from” price on the list describes the job in the simplest case. If a fastener is rusted, a part has seized or something needs replacing, the job takes longer and the price of the part is added.

We use original Tesla parts and follow Tesla Service protocols. Filters, wipers, brake pads and discs are wear parts whose price depends on the model and year, so only the actual car gives the exact figure. Model S and Model X parts differ from those of Model 3 and Model Y, which is why the Tesla service price also varies by model.

ServiceMode price list: maintenance and common jobs

Our Tesla service price list shows “from” prices. These are the most common jobs, all excluding VAT:

Tesla maintenance from €60

Tesla repair work from €80

brake pads and discs from €80

3D wheel alignment from €100

reduction gear oil change from €100

diagnostics and electrical work from €150

reading and clearing fault codes from €150

A/C refill from €250

You will find the full list on our prices page. A “from” price is the starting price: the final amount depends on the car, the scope of work and the parts needed. If the car needs more, ask for a quote before the work starts.

What a Tesla typically needs in a year

For a Tesla driven in Estonia and Finland, one service visit a year makes sense, because salted roads call for caliper cleaning and lubrication. The wiper blades are replaced at the same visit, and every second year the cabin filter as well. The brake fluid test comes every four years.

If you swap summer and winter tyres twice a year, that is also a good moment to rotate them. Wheel alignment is worth doing after new tyres are fitted or when a tyre wears unevenly. This way your Tesla maintenance cost is spread over several small jobs rather than one large bill.

Over four years the cycle looks like this: calipers and wipers every year, the cabin filter every second year, and the brake fluid test in year four. Older cars without a heat pump also need an A/C desiccant bag replacement: every 2 years for a 2012–2020 Model S, every 4 years for a 2015–2020 Model X and every 6 years for a 2017–2023 Model 3 without a heat pump.

What makes a year more expensive

Most unexpected costs are caused not by scheduled maintenance but by wear and winter. The most common example is brakes: because a Tesla uses its mechanical brakes so little, discs can rust and calipers seize before the pads wear out. Then pads and discs have to be replaced, which raises the Tesla maintenance cost far more than a timely cleaning would.

The second example is air conditioning. Refrigerant is not consumed, so weaker cooling points to a leak that must be found before refilling. The third is faults the car shows as warnings on the screen: the longer a warning is ignored, the bigger the fault can grow.

Tesla also counts the low voltage battery, fluids and refrigerants as consumables. They are replaced by condition rather than by the calendar, so it pays to have them checked at the yearly visit. That way a battery or A/C problem will not catch you out in the coldest week of winter.

How to keep your Tesla maintenance cost predictable

A few simple steps make a large bill much less likely:

Before the visit, check the maintenance summary on the touchscreen (Controls > Service > Maintenance) and note down any warnings.

Describe the problem as precisely as you can: when it happens, at what speed and what sound or feeling comes with it.

Agree that extra work is only done after your approval and a quote.

Do not postpone brake service: cleaning after winter costs less than replacing rusted discs.

Keep the invoices and ask for the job to be recorded in the maintenance summary, which also helps when you sell the car.

Diagnostics: when they save money

When an alert appears on the screen or the car behaves differently, start with diagnostics. Reading and clearing fault codes starts from €150 on our price list. With Tesla’s licensed diagnostic equipment, Toolbox 3, we can see which system raised the fault and how serious it is, so parts are not replaced by trial and error.

Diagnostics directly affect what your Tesla maintenance cost ends up being: parts replaced without a diagnosis are exactly what makes a repair most expensive. Read more about diagnostics and fault codes in our article on Tesla diagnostics.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Tesla maintenance cost per year?

There is no fixed annual package, because the Tesla maintenance cost depends on what the car needs. On our price list, maintenance starts from €60 excluding VAT. The final amount depends on which jobs and parts the car needs that year and whether the inspection shows that wear parts need replacing.

Do the prices on the price list include VAT?

No. ServiceMode’s list prices exclude VAT, which is added to the invoice. The list shows the starting price, and the final invoice depends on the work done and the parts used.

Is servicing a Tesla cheaper than a petrol car?

Generally yes, because a Tesla needs no oil changes, spark plugs or fuel system service, and brake pads wear slowly. Winter rust on the brakes and worn parts can still push up the Tesla maintenance cost if they are not dealt with in time.

Why does the price list only show “from” prices?

Because the same job takes a different amount of time on different models and on cars in different condition. Rusted fasteners, extra parts or hidden faults change the total. We can give an exact price after inspecting the car.

Want to know the Tesla maintenance cost for your own car?
