So the Tesla maintenance schedule is not the familiar “every 15,000 km or once a year” package. Tesla says plainly that the car needs no annual maintenance or regular fluid changes. Individual jobs have their own intervals and the rest is checked by condition: fewer jobs, but more attention to brakes and tyres.<\/p>\n\n
According to Tesla, the battery coolant usually lasts the life of the vehicle, and damage caused by opening its reservoir is not covered by the warranty. Owners must not top up the brake fluid. Both levels should be checked by Tesla or a professional workshop.<\/p>\n\n
The Tesla maintenance schedule item by item<\/h2>\n\n
In the current European owner’s manual<\/a>, the Tesla service intervals for Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X follow the same basic list:<\/p>\n\n Tesla recommends wheel alignment as needed: when tyres wear unevenly, when the car pulls to one side with the wheel held straight, or after new tyres are fitted. Balance the wheels if the steering wheel starts to vibrate.<\/p>\n\n On some cars the maintenance summary may also suggest radiator cleaning or cleaning the inside of the windshield in the camera area. These are not calendar items: the car tells you when they are due.<\/p>\n\n In the Tesla service intervals, air conditioning service mainly means replacing the A\/C desiccant bag. Cars with a heat pump need no scheduled replacement. Without a heat pump it depends on the model: every 2 years for a 2012\u20132020 Model S, every 4 years for a 2015\u20132020 Model X and every 6 years for a 2017\u20132023 Model 3 without a heat pump.<\/p>\n\n To see whether your car has a heat pump, go to Controls > Software > Additional Vehicle Information. Refrigerant is not consumed. If cooling gets weaker, the system most likely leaks, and the leak has to be found before the A\/C is refilled, or the new charge will soon be gone.<\/p>\n\n Winter changes the Tesla maintenance schedule more than anything else. Where roads are salted, Tesla recommends cleaning and lubricating the brake calipers every year or every 20,000 km. Regenerative braking does most of the work, so pads and guide pins barely move, salt and moisture stay inside, and the brake can seize or the disc rust.<\/p>\n\n The exception is the newer Model Y: for cars produced after February 2025, Tesla does not require lubrication, but cleaning stays on the list. The manual also advises pressing the brake pedal often, so the mechanical brakes are applied and the pads and discs dry out. More in our article on Tesla brakes<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n A practical rhythm for Estonia and Finland: combine brake service with the spring or autumn tyre change, when the wheels are off anyway and the tyres can be rotated at the same visit. After winter, also wash the underbody and wheel arches, where salt stays the longest.<\/p>\n\n Tesla itself stresses that the list is not comprehensive: it leaves out consumables such as wipers, brake pads, the low voltage battery, fluids and refrigerants. These are replaced by condition, not by the calendar, which is why a regular inspection pays off even when the maintenance summary shows everything as fine.<\/p>\n\n Where roads are salted, have the brakes, tyres, suspension and underbody panels inspected at least once a year. If a warning appears on the screen or the car behaves differently, do not wait for the next scheduled visit: fault codes are read with diagnostic equipment, and then it is clear how serious the problem is.<\/p>\n\n The Tesla maintenance schedule is built into the car: the maintenance summary is under Controls > Service > Maintenance. It shows when each job was last done, what is overdue and what is due soon. Newer recommendations, such as the cabin filter schedule, require software version 2024.44.25 or later. The records persist through a factory reset, which matters when you sell the car.<\/p>\n\n After the work, the job can be recorded on the screen and the interval reset. Tesla says the owner is responsible for the accuracy of this information, especially when the work was done by an independent repairer or the owner. Ask the workshop to record the job straight away or do it yourself, and keep the invoice.<\/p>\n\n According to Tesla, no. On salted roads, however, Tesla recommends cleaning and lubricating the calipers every year, so for a car driven in Estonia or Finland a yearly workshop visit makes sense. On paper the Tesla maintenance schedule is relaxed; the climate makes it annual in practice.<\/p>\n\n A Tesla has no engine oil. The reduction gear does contain oil, but the Tesla service intervals do not include changing it. Towing, long mountain descents or performance driving may call for more frequent checks.<\/p>\n\n The basic list is the same; the differences are in the details.
